Gemma Smith, Expedition Diver with Rachel Butler, Natural History Producer (EG13)

May, 2019: Gemma Smith chats with Rachel Butler on matters deep sea and deep trauma. Technical diver Gemma Smith is the first woman ever to explore and excavate the world famous Antikythera Shipwreck, which yielded some of the most important ancient sculptures ever to be found in the Aegean Sea, as well as the extraordinary Antikythera mechanism. An Assistant Producer on Blue Planet II, Rachel Butler did original research to uncover extraordinary underwater stories, set up and direct shoots, and also got in the water herself — diving all over the world, from the Arctic Ocean to French Polynesia, from Norwegian fjords to the Great Barrier Reef.

Our team has been working hard behind the scenes to bring you a superb program for EG2020. However, in light of growing and legitimate concerns regarding the rapid spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) which have gutted international events of all sizes, we have made the difficult decision to put EG on hiatus until it is once again deemed safe.

We know how much each of you look forward to EG and we were looking forward to seeing old friends, and welcoming many new ones, but we do need to prioritize the health and safety of our attendees, presenters, and partners, especially those traveling from afar.

We will be in touch in due course with future plans.
