Katherine is a 5th grader living in Wellesley, MA. She started her musical journey at age three with her mother, Dr. Fumei Huang, a piano teacher and performed in public at Boston's Steinway Hall at age four. She has taken top honors in numerous piano competitions — the Chopin International Piano Competition in Connecticut in 2015, the Concord Youth Artist Concerto Competition, the American Prot?g? Competition, and the Steinway Piano and Bay State Competitions. Katherine had her Carnegie Hall debut in 2015 and recently performed at the Cartoon Festival at Boston Symphony Hall. She has been featured on WCRB 99.5 with host Cathy Fuller, and in February, she made her first appearance on NPR's From the Top with Host Christopher O'Riley at Jordan Hall.
She has played in master classes with Victor Rosenbaum, Max Levinson, and Krystian Tkaczwski, and currently studies with Dorothy Shi.
Besides piano, she also plays violin in her school orchestra and loves dancing at the Walnut Hill Community Dance Academy. In her free time, she loves reading, swimming and solving math problems.
