In a four-decade long career that has spanned the seven seas, Jim has worked as a museum director, educator, television host, author and in government. Currently Director of Maritime Heritage for NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, Jim has a PhD in Archaeology from Simon Fraser University. He has participated in and led archaeological expeditions to some of history's most famous shipwrecks, including Titanic, USS Arizona, and Kublai Khan's lost armada of 1284, and ships dating from the ancient world to the dawn of the nuclear age. Jim's passionate focus is making archaeology and exploration relevant and exciting, and he recently helped organize and expedition to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico for the first round-the-clock, interactive 24/7 web broadcast of shipwreck discovery, mapping and excavation that reached a global audience.
