Angel Chang is a womenswear designer who explores bleeding-edge trends in fashion, craftsmanship, and technology. Her eponymous collection was known for its future-focused innovative materials and was quickly honored with the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award and Cartier Women’s Initiative Award. Following the recession of 2008, Angel sought to develop a new approach to design that was less excessive and more sustainable.
It was while searching for beautiful fabrics in rural China that she discovered a magical world where indigenous tribes still lived in the traditional way and maintained hand-craftsmanship techniques dating back more than 1000 years. By living amongst these villagers, Angel learned how live off the land, off-the-grid, according to the cycles of nature, and without electricity — all the while producing a locally-produced, naturally organic, and chemical-free womenswear collection that could still compete at the global level.
