John has been a wildlife filmmaker for 30 years, sometimes as a producer and mostly as a 'long-lens' cameraman, usually filming shy things far away, often from a blind much smaller than himself. Some of these shy things have teeth, many have feathers: none has bitten him yet.

John started at the Film Unit of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, by weighing a million feet of film and tracing round himself to make a life-size cardboard skeleton to go in his boss's closet.  Since then he has produced a film about amber, presented by David Attenborough, and has filmed for many BBC series, including Planet Earth II, The Hunt, Frozen Planet, Life Stories, Life, Yellowstone and Big Cat Diary, as well as for Disney Nature, Netflix, National Geographic and Discovery Channel. His book about some of these adventures, The Shark and the Albatross, has been published in the UK, Canada and China.

John and his family live by the sea in Scotland. He is slightly obsessed with otters and with the urgent need to conserve nature.

Register for EG 2020.

30 April - 2 May 2020

Our team has been working hard behind the scenes to bring you a superb program for EG2020. However, in light of growing and legitimate concerns regarding the rapid spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) which have gutted international events of all sizes, we have made the difficult decision to put EG on hiatus until it is once again deemed safe.

We know how much each of you look forward to EG and we were looking forward to seeing old friends, and welcoming many new ones, but we do need to prioritize the health and safety of our attendees, presenters, and partners, especially those traveling from afar.

We will be in touch in due course with future plans.
