Bill Atkinson

Atkinson studied to become a research neuroscientist, but instead was recruited to join Apple back when it was only thirty people. At Apple, he designed much of the initial Lisa and Macintosh user interface, and wrote the original QuickDraw, MacPaint and HyperCard software.

Since the age of ten, Atkinson has photographed the beauty of nature. He became an expert at printmaking and color management, and has taught workshops to hundreds of photographers. He now makes large canvas prints of his photographs and has published an art book, Within the Stone, of his polished rock photos.

Atkinson's latest passion is saving the tradition of printed postcards. He has written an iOS App, PhotoCard, that lets people create and send custom postcards, and he operates a service that prints and mails the postcards.
